How to become a DOTA 2 player: where to start, what goals to set for yourself?
Bogdan LashchenkoDOTA 2 is undoubtedly one of the most popular computer games currently playable online. The rules may seem a bit complicated for beginners, and so we have decided to discuss them in very accessible language in the following text.
What is DOTA 2?
In order to even begin considering how to start playing DOTA 2, it's worth knowing briefly what the title is in general and what sets it apart. DOTA 2 is a team-based online game in the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) genre. And it is one of the most popular titles, whose direct competition is perhaps the League of Legends you may already know. All DOTA 2 matches are played on the same map and the rules of the game remain the same. The only difference between the different parts of the game is in the characters that can be chosen. And it is the characters that play a key role in this game.
Did you know that you can bet on DOTA 2?
Before we present a guide to playing DOTA 2, it is worth you knowing that this game is so popular that it has even found its way into online casinos. These are mainly casinos that offer free money for registering an account. Thanks to them, you can get a taste of betting on DOTA 2 and without having to deposit your own funds. You will receive cash for registering and you will be able to bet on the results of upcoming DOTA 2 games or other events that are available in the game. To put it simply: if you are a DOTA 2 fan, you can watch and bet on the game at online casinos without any risk as well, and all thanks to the fact that with the free money for registration you do not sacrifice your money, so even if you fail, you will not lose anything. Isn't that an interesting solution?
DOTA 2 - a beginner's guide for players
Below we have included a short guide, discussing the most important issues of the computer game DOTA 2. This is a valuable collection of information that will help you, as a beginner, to enter a new world with doors.
Map and general rules
The map on which the game in DOTA 2 is played is asymmetrical. It is divided into three paths on which creeps, i.e. automatic creatures of both teams, move. When we kill them, we gain gold and valuable experience points. Only the one who deals the last blow will earn. An interesting element is the possibility to kill your own creatures, so that the gold and experience points do not fall into the account of the opponent.
It is the skill of killing creeps that determines how fast our character will grow. Interestingly, we also collect points by being near a teammate who inflicted the last hit, but it will be proportionally less points than if we inflicted the decisive hit ourselves.
As for the match, each player starts with a level 1 hero and the maximum level that can be achieved is 25. With each promotion, you can choose the skill you want to develop. Interestingly, most of the characters available in the game each have three basic skills and an ultimate, which is one special skill.
Gameplay modes
What are the gameplay modes? There are nine different modes, and here they are:
- All Pick - each player chooses a hero from a pool of 107 characters.
- Limited Heroes - players choose from a pool of novice heroes.
- Single Draft - a hero is selected from a pool of three at random.
- Captains Mode - team captains select and block heroes.
- Captains Draft - similar to above, except that players choose the captain.
- Random Draft - players choose heroes from a pool of 20 characters.
- Ability Draft - a fairly specific mode where you can create your own hero.
- Least Played - selecting a hero from a pool of characters that have been played the least.
- All Random - all heroes for all players are assigned randomly.
So, as you can see, there are really a lot of modes, and it seems that the optimal solution for a beginner player in DOTA 2 would be Limited Heroes mode. As your experience increases, you can move on to other game modes.
Characters
What is particularly interesting is that there are as many as 107 heroes available in DOTA 2. All of them are available from the start of the game, but beginning players may be overwhelmed by such a number, which doesn't surprise us. Therefore, we decided to suggest and briefly describe a few characters that we recommend to beginner players.
The first of these are Carry, i.e. characters that can deal the most damage in the shortest time possible. Admittedly, they are not very resilient in the initial phase of the game, but something is at the expense of something. Lane support are other interesting characters for beginners. They aim to help their fellow players by healing, restoring energy or shielding them from enemy attacks. Jungler are characters who specialise in fighting neutral creatures. They can set up interesting ambushes against opponents. Pusher, on the other hand, are other heroes recommended for beginners. They have the ability to quickly destroy fortifications and summon additional animals or creatures to help attack enemy towers.
