Team Liquid crowned champions of Dota 2 tournament in Lima

The city of Lima has become a reference point for e-sports by hosting one of the most important Dota 2 tournaments: the Elite League S2. An event that brought together the best teams in the world and culminated with the consecration of Team Liquid as the grand champion.
The tournament took place at the ESAN Convention Centre, a venue that, from 2 to 4 August, witnessed three intense days of competition and generated great interest among Dota 2 gaming fans . The organisers managed to bring together the 16 best teams from different regions of the world, after a qualifying phase in which more than 150 teams participated.
A challenging journey
After months of online competition and a series of face-to-face matches in Lima, Team Liquid managed to overcome their opponents in a best-of-five final series against Russian team 1win. The final, which went down to the fifth map, was an epic battle that kept fans in suspense until the very last moment.
The final match was especially significant for Nisha, the Polish player who, with a stellar performance, managed to reverse an adverse situation and lead his team to victory, allowing Team Liquid to break a negative streak that had accompanied them since 2020. The reward for this effort was no less: the team took home a prize of $240,000, while 1win received $120,000.
The importance of eSports in Latin America
With a prize pool of one million dollars, the event stands out as one of the largest in the region and consolidates eSports as a growing industry, with significant economic projections. According to studies by Statista, the eSports market in Peru is expected to generate revenues of more than USD 12 million by 2024, with an annual growth rate of 6.94%.
Peru has proven to be a powerhouse in the Dota 2 world, not only in terms of hosting major events, but also in terms of professional players and teams. With an active community and player base that makes it the first country in Latin America in terms of active users, Peru continues to stand out on the global scene. Peruvian teams have made significant achievements, as evidenced by BOOM Esports' third place finish in this tournament, who took home a prize of US$72,000.
Beyond the Elite League
In November 2024, the city will host the Global Esports Tour Lima, and in 2025 it will host the Global Esports Games, events that will attract competitors from more than 150 countries. These competitions will not only bring international prestige, but will also boost the local economy and consolidate Lima as a global eSports capital.
Thus, Team Liquid's success in the Elite League S2 is just the beginning of a series of events that will put Peru and its players at the centre of the global eSports scene.
