M80 bedövar Astralis på Ancient, går till 1–1 medan Astralis förlorar till 0–2 vid StarLadder Budapest Major 2025
November 29, 2025 — In one of the biggest surprises of Stage 2 at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, the North American roster M80 secured a crucial best-of-one victory over Astralis, further strengthening their position after a flawless 3–0 run in Stage 1. With this result, M80 move up to 1–1, while Astralis drop to a worrying 0–2, now standing on the brink of elimination.
The matchup was tense from the beginning, and the direction of the game became clear already during the veto phase, where both teams removed their weakest maps. The map veto proceeded as follows:
- M80 removed Nuke
- M80 removed Overpass
- Astralis removed Mirage
- Astralis removed Train
- Astralis removed Dust2
- M80 removed Inferno
- Ancient remained as the final map
With Ancient left, M80 showed excellent preparation. Their structured defensive setups and aggressive mid-control repeatedly disrupted Astralis’ game plan. Despite the Danish team trying to stabilize with slow defaults and tactical executions, M80’s momentum and confidence—built on their strong Stage 1 performance—allowed them to hold firm in crucial rounds.
This victory is especially significant for M80. Defeating a legendary organization like Astralis boosts their international reputation and proves they are a real threat on the Major stage. Their successful transition into Stage 2 gives the team a psychological advantage ahead of their next 1–1 matchup.
For Astralis, however, this loss is a major blow. Dropping to 0–2 means the Danish giants are now fighting for survival in the Swiss system, where another defeat could send them out of the tournament. Every next match becomes a must-win scenario, adding tremendous pressure to a team already struggling to find rhythm.
