Review of DreamHack Open Montreal 2018

Recently the championship with the prize pool of $100,000 DreamHack Open Montreal 2018 has ended up. Now let’s sum the tournament up.

We want to remind you that DreamHack Open Montreal 2018 was taking place from 7 September till 9 September in Montreal, Canada and the holding place was Olympic Stadium. Eight collectives from Poland, Latvia, Finland, the USA, Denmark, Sweden, Brazil and other countries participated in the championship.

Winners

Some of the teams participating in the championship managed to give joy with the help of their performances as the other collectives disappointed their fans and other spectators. We will tell you about the participants of the tournament that managed to impress the audience further.

Team Kinguin

The Polish CS:GO roster Team Kinguin hold key positions in the list of the best teams of DreamHack Open Montreal 2018. At the group stage the team weren’t able to defeat their opponents from Red Reserve and this loss was the last. The Polish got the win at all the other meetings against eUnited, Red Reserve, AGO eSports and ENCE eSports and became the champions of the event. Their efforts resulted in a money reward of $50,000 for Team Kinguin. An interesting fact is the fact that at first Kinguin were not clear favourites. After Kinguin’s performance at DreamHack Open Montreal 2018, the majority of viewers think that Kinguin are the strongest team in Poland. By the way, we agree with this point of view.

ENCE eSports

ENCE eSports have proved that their status of the best team in Finland wasn’t groundless. At this championship, ENCE managed to make it out of the group taking the first place there. At the playoff stage, they won over the strongest Latvian team The Imperial, but at the final against Team Kinguin ENCE, they could do nothing. Nevertheless, ENCE eSports got good results and taking the second place at the championship, the team were able to earn a money reward of $20,000.

AGO eSports

AGO eSports couldn’t be named either an outsider of the tournament, or its favourite. The roster of AGO is not so bad and recently the players have showed that they are capable to do a lot winning over OGA Counter Pit Season 1. But there were very strong opponents at DreamHack Open Montreal 2018. At the group stage AGO had no problem to win over such teams as The Imperial and Luminosity Gaming. At the playoff, AGO had to play with another team from Poland Team Kinguin at the semi-final. AGO eSports couldn’t show anything serious at the battle against Kinguin and lost on the maps by the score of 4-16 and 8-16.

The Imperial

After the win at the last DreamHack Open The Imperial started giving up ground. The main reason of that is a replacement of players in the roster. Such esportsmen as tenzki and kRYSTAL got inactive and pounh and hAdji joined the roster instead of them in August. The result of that was received 3-4 place at ZOTAC Cup Masters 2018 - Europe. At DreamHack Open Montreal 2018 Imperial, performed better and also took the 3-4 place. But unlike ZOTAC Cup Masters 2018 — Europe, where Imperial got a money reward of $2,500, at DreamHack Open Montreal 2018 The Imperial became the owners of a more prestigious prize of $10,000. So that is why it is possible that the Latvian players can get closer to the win or become champions at the next tournament of this level.

Losers

Apart from the teams that managed to give joy to the spectators and their fans with the help of their performance at the tournament, there were several tournaments that couldn’t show anything and finished their participation in the championship at the group stage.

Red Reserve

Red Reserve had the chance to get to the playoff. This collective couldn’t be named as very weak. At the first match of the group match Red Reserve even were able to win over the champions of the tournament, the team Team Kinguin, but after that they couldn’t defeat ENCE eSports and rebuke the Polish at the rematch. Lately, Red Reserve have performed worse. If the teams don’t make any fundamental change, they will have no success.

Heroic

Heroic haven’t reached any good decision to improve their results yet. At the last DreamHack Open, taking place in Valencia, Heroic got the 3-4 place and got a money reward of $10,000. At this championship they couldn’t oppose to such opponents as Luminosity Gaming and The Imperial, and after that they were the first to leave the event with the statistics of 0-2.

Luminosity Gaming

Despite the fact that the roster of Luminosity Gaming can be easily named battle-ready, the collective showed nothing interesting at DreamHack Open Montreal 2018. There at the group stage the Brazilians got a difficult win at the match against Heroic, where the game was led to overtime and resulted in the score of 19-17. At the second match against AGO eSports, LG couldn’t win over the Polish opponents and at the decisive meeting against The Imperial, the Brazilians lost by the score of 2-0. Thanks to the fact that Luminosity Gaming managed to win one game the teams took the 5-6 place in the tournament bracket and got a money reward of $3,000.

eUnited

eUnited completed their roster on 5 March this year. Since that moment the American collective haven’t showed any good results and DreamHack Open Montreal 2018 wasn’t an exception. The team got to Group A and lost there at the first match against ENCE eSports and Team Kinguin, and after that they finished their participation in the championship getting the 7-8 place. It wasn’t surprising as eUnited can’t be named a serious roster. Maybe next time the collective will get something more but this time they were the first to leave the tournament and get a consolation prize of $2,000.
