We continue to follow the group stage of CSGO's biggest summer event. At IEM Cologne 2023, the battle for spots in the championship play-offs is sharpening.

There are 12 teams left in the race for the main stage. After this match, there will be 11 of them.

In the match for life will meet Fnatic and GamerLegion. The teams will play each other to advance to the small finals of Group A. The format of the meeting is Bo3.

Let's try to figure out which of the teams will be stronger in this Bo3 match and continue their way to the play-offs of IEM Cologne 2023, and who will be two steps away from getting into the main stage of the German tournament.

Fnatic uniforms

Let's start the match analysis with Fnatic's form. In this match, the "orange" will play in the status of favourites.

Prior to the Long Round of the tournament, fnatic had a significant reshuffle in their roster. Dexter and afro joined the club during the Big Reshuffle. The Australian played for MOUZ for the last two years, and the Frenchman afro played for LDLC.

In the first match, the renewed Fnatic roster faced Complexity on Inferno. It took a series of dops to win, but still a 19-17 victory was secured.

To advance to the group stage they needed to beat 9INE 2-0. In the first match of the group stage, Fnatic defeated the "mastodons" of Group A, Cloud9 with a score of 2-1.

In the match to advance to the play-offs, Fnatic faced ENCE. "Orange" tried, but ENCE took Overpass on class with a score of 16-13 and closed the series on Nuke with a score of 16-11.

Fnatic's Mapplepool

The perfect map for Fnatic stunned Ancient. "Orange" played it 4 times and won all matches.

A hundred per cent winrate also on Nuke with Anubis, but fnatic has only 1 match there.

Worst of all fnatic is on Overpass and Vertigo, where they have one win each in 3 matches.

GamerLegion Form

We continue the match analysis with the analysis of GamerLegion's form. In this match they are playing as a number two.

Bookmakers do not believe in the victory of GamerLegion. The odds for the success of The International are around 2.8.

The twofold advantage is due to GamerLegion's performance. They are now in the shadow of themselves, and their success at the Paris Major was nothing more than a fluke, in my opinion.

GamerLegion is the 6th team in the world ranking, but they won't be there for long. For the most part, this is the merit of one tournament.

GamerLegion didn't show much hope in 2023. They played well at local events like Thunderpick Bitcoin Series #2 where they won, CCT West Europe Series #1 where they finished in the top 2, RES Western European Masters: Spring 2023 where they finished in the top 2.

There was also TOP-1 at Elisa Invitational Winter 2023, but the main achievement happened in May this year. It was then that GamerLegion defied logic and made it to the grand final of BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, where they defeated the hosts Vitality.

After a great injury in Paris, GamerLegion lost two of their headliners - siuhy and iM. Newcomers neaLaN and volt are not yet reaching the level of Top 2 Major a, and their KDs are eloquent: 0.64 for the former and 0.78 for the latter.

The first match at IEM Cologne 2023 was against Monte. The Ukrainian club was head to head and shut down their vis-a-vis with a score of 2-0 (16-8 Mirage, 16-11 Overpass).

GamerLegion managed to switch on at the last moment. In the match against TheMongolZ, GL Ledge took an 8-16 lead on Mirage on the first map, but camebacked Inferno (16-8) and closed the series on the dopes with Overpass (19-15).

The best map GL is Overpass. The team there has 6 wins and 2 losses.

There was also Ancient with 2 wins and 1 loss. Still have Mirage in the pool (57% wins in 7 matches).

On Inferno they are 2-2. Nuke has 1 try and a loss.

Not playing on Anubis and Vertigo.

History of head-to-head meetings between Fnatic and GamerLegion

The last time Fnatic met GamerLegion was at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. Then GamerLegion celebrated the victory, showing a generally top tournament in Paris.

Judging by what is happening at IEM Cologne 2023, fnatic should run over GamerLegion. Yes, the latter made it into the top 2 at the last Major e, but, again, it was a matter of chance. GamerLegion is not here at IEM Cologne 2023, and the Mongols lost in the previous round rather than GamerLegion forcing them to do so.

Fnatic look clearly more awake and should close out GL.
