Gruppspelsresultat PGL Arlington Major: kinesisk dominans och obehagliga överraskningar
Maksym ShylovThe group stage of the main Dota 2 event in August 2022, namely the PGL Arlington Major, has ended. 17 teams fought in two groups for the right to reach the playoffs. Summing up the results of the five-day confrontation.
The two groups played in the Round Robin format. All matches were held in bo2 series. Teams that took 6th-5th places received a ticket to the lower bracket. They will not have the right to make a mistake. Top 4 teams from each group advanced to the upper bracket of the playoffs.
Group A
Final standings:
Place | Team name | Match statistics | Map statistics |
1 | PSG.LGD | 7-1-0 | 15-1 |
2 | Outsiders | 3-4-1 | 10-6 |
3 | OG | 3-3-2 | 9-7 |
4 | Fnatic | 2-5-1 | 9-7 |
5 | Royal Never Give Up | 2-4-2 | 8-8 |
6 | Team Liquid | 1-5-2 | 7-9 |
7 | Talon Esports | 1-3-4 | 5-11 |
8 | Thunder Awaken | 0-5-3 | 5-11 |
9 | Soniqs | 0-4-4 | 4-12 |
The Chinese team PSG.LGD proves that, with motivation, it can win everyone in its path. After a vague performance at DPC CN 2021/2022 Tour 3: Division I, which was due to the fact that the team had already qualified for The International 2022. Ame and the team managed to win the Riyadh Masters, which brought them $1,500,000. At the Major, the club is clearly aiming to earn another $200,000. PSG.LGD didn't lose a single game in 8 matches, and they lost the only map to the Soniqs team. The perfect combination of individual and team performance has borne fruit.
Outsiders and OG also advance to the upper bracket. Outsiders showed a good game, losing only to PSG.LGD. OG, although they coped with the task of the group stage, but their performance does not cause delight.
Fnatic can be called the discovery of the group. After it became known that the team from Southeast Asia could not bring 3 players to the USA, it seemed that the club would be removed from participation. However, the organizers made an exception, and the team was replenished with TSM players. Until recently, it was not clear how such a roster would play, and whether there would be a language barrier in the team. As a result, Timado, Bryle and DuBu helped Fnatic advance to the upper bracket from 4th place. A good result under such circumstances.
Royal Never Give Up with two-time The International champion, ana, got into the lower bracket. The team won the regional league and purely nominally had to show a performance not much worse than their colleagues from PSG.LGD. In practice, with the replacement, the club entered the playoffs from 5th place, but the team's fans clearly expected a better result.
Team Liquid showed a fairly average game, but it was enough to get into the playoffs. The tournament was left by Talon Esports, Thunder Awaken and Soniqs. The extremely unstable performance of these teams, as well as an objectively lower level of play, led to the last places in the group. The main disappointment of the group was the former composition of the Quincy Crew. It was extremely pleasant to watch YawaR and the team during the season, however, at the PGL Arlington Major, the club caused mostly negative emotions, although sometimes it surprised them by taking cards from OG and PSG.LGD.
Group B
Final standings:
Place | Team name | Match statistics | Map statistics |
1 | Team Aster | 3-4-0 | 10-4 |
2 | Entity | 3-3-1 | 9-5 |
3 | Team Spirit | 3-3-1 | 9-5 |
4 | BOOM Esports | 2-3-2 | 7-7 |
5 | Evil Geniuses | 2-2-3 | 6-8 |
6 | beastcoast | 1-4-2 | 6-8 |
7 | Natus Vincere | 2-1-4 | 5-9 |
8 | Tundra Esports | 0-4-3 | 4-10 |
Unlike Group A, 8 teams were represented here, since Xtreme Gaming did not come to the Major due to the fact that their carries could not get a visa to the USA.
Natus Vincere and Tundra Esports leave the tournament. It is worth noting that the Born to Win have a good individual performance, in particular, it is worth noting No[o]ne-, but the drafts let them down a lot. The reason may be the lack of a squad coach. Tundra have not been able to win a single victory at all and deservedly miss the playoffs.
BOOM Esports are the opening of group B, the players demonstrate a good performance and lost only to beastcoast and Entity. They avoided replays for 4th place by drawing group winners, Team Aster. Entity and the champions of The International 10, Team Spirit will also enter the upper bracket.
Evil Geniuses started the tournament extremely weakly, however, already on the second game day, the team remembered that they had come to Arlington to play Dota 2. 2 losses at the start led to the 5th line of the standings and a place in the lower bracket.
As a result of the group stage, it is worth noting that the Chinese teams remain the favorites both before the start of the tournament and now. PSG.LGD stand out qualitatively from the rest of the teams, but Aster also play well. Royal Never Give Up is a bit disappointing, however, perhaps this was the result of a change in the line-up.
Before the start of the Major, we noted the problems that may arise in the tournament. In particular, a large number of forced replacements were called. For some, they benefited, like, for example, Fnatic, but for others, on the contrary, they did not bring anything good. The fight for prize money and DPC points continues.
